The Ideal Caravan Location in Sydney

After picking up the caravan in January with a view to doing longer Aussie trips including the big lap, the next step was to spend a week away to get used to it and test things out.
I chose the Northern Beaches of Sydney for the week in February as it's a comfortable 3 hour drive from home, and gave me a fantastic opportunity to catch up with Sydney friends, family, and colleagues.

Living in Sydney for over 20 years, and in the Northern Beaches (Dee Why) for more than 10 of those, I wasn't overly excited about going to the local caravan park. I'd stayed there overnight once before in a cabin and it was more about proximity for other things than the location itself.
However, I absolutely loved my week in the van at the Big 4 Sydney Lakeside Holiday Park. It re-ignited my love of the region and reminded me how much I'd love to live near the coast again longer-term.

Our site was near the lake which provided some spectacular sunset views, and walking just a few minutes provided easy access to two cafes, the beach, and ocean pools. 💙
The weather was perfect, and I could easily understand how people like the lovely couple next to us, visited for a couple of months each year.

After a fairly harrowing first trip with the van, it was a relief to spend a week in one spot to get more familiar with how everything works. It's still an exciting but terrifying thought to be planning extended caravan travel for the first time!
It may be a while before the next Sydney van trip, but I would be genuinely excited about the next visit.
